That Must Be Nice, Vol. 1

A forgotten vignette from the Golden Apple Tour: at the final rest stop, as I crumpled my food wrappers and gathered myself up off the grass to finish the ride I listened to a man and woman nearby as they got to know one another. "So what do you do?," he asked.

"I'm retired," she responded. She, like he, was in her thirties.

"Oh," he said, perhaps a little miffed.

"No, really," she said, "I'm retired. I worked very hard and now I don't."

"Investment banking?," he asked.

"Actually, yes." And now she just rides her bike.
