Everything seems to be working now, so here's what happened: the old host got slow. Really, really slow. My hosting company went and changed the server hardware out from under me without warning, causing intermittent downtime over several days and leaving me with a server so backward, so bogged down, that calling the simplest CGI script took anywhere from twenty seconds to two and a half minutes.
I'm with Insider Hosting now, and I'm much, much happier.

Galan the hawk, mentioned before here and in the Photoblog, did a bad, bad thing. During his appointed pigeon-frightening rounds of Bryant Park, the delinquent raptor took it upon himself to attack a pet chihuahua, which suffered non-critical injuries. The hawk program had been running smoothly so far this summer, and I feel bad for both dog and hawk, neither of which was properly prepared for the other's presence. Galan is on suspension (and the front page of the Daily News), and the dog is recovering.
