Road Out Of Waipi'o
A photo through our windshield on the road back out of Waipi'o Valley. This photo gives an idea of the steepness of the road, but remember that the car it was taken from is leaning back at a fairly remarkable angle. At the bottom of the hill, listening to our engine, it suddenly occurred to me that our rented SUV might not be powerful enough to pull itself up the hill. Downhill traffic is supposed to yield to uphill, so that you don't have to stop, and it was around this point that I really understood why. Taken on the Big Island of Hawaii on October 5, 2001.
