Hana Highway
We're on our way back home from Hawaii right now. The last time we were there (our first trip, for our Honeymoon), we spent our last days in Hana, at the eastern tip of Maui. The road to Hana is much celebrated as a picturesque and difficult drive, three hours of switchbacks, blind corners, waterfalls, and single-lane bridges along the edge of a cliff from which rocks really do fall. I took this photograph on October 11, 2001, looking back along the stretch of road we had just traversed. The day we left we made the return trip along this road in a light rainstorm, driving in the right lane along the guardrail. Beautiful, but tiring. I hope that today's trip back home is easier.
